Golf Club - Community & Impact
Hole 19, Abeokuta Golf Club — Where It All Began
It was a Thursday evening in July 2016. The weekly kitty at Abeokuta Golf Club had just concluded, and members were gathered, awaiting the announcement of scores. At one particular table, a group of golfers sat, enjoying drinks and engaged in deep conversation.
The discussion meandered through many topics but kept circling back to one: the game of golf and the urgent need to promote core values within it.
From that conversation, a shared vision was born. The golfers at that table decided to create a group centered on integrity and high moral values, essential traits for anyone who truly understands the spirit of golf.
They were united by a belief: golf is a game of integrity. As Jack Nicklaus famously said, “If there’s one thing golf demands above all else, it is honesty.”
And so, Different Strokes was born.
The name, inspired by the phrase “different strokes for different folks,” reflects the diversity of the group — golfers from varied backgrounds, brought together by a mutual love for the game and a commitment to its highest ideals.
Membership into Different Strokes is intentionally selective to preserve the group’s founding purpose. Only golfers with proven integrity—on and off course are admitted.

Our charity tournaments bring golfers together to raise funds for students and community programs. Share the date, location, and registration details for the next event to feature it here.
Highlight impact with 2–3 specific examples (e.g., ₦50,000 covers a semester, equipment for junior golfers, travel support for competitions).
Share short stories or photos from past tournaments and outreach. Add 3–4 sentence summaries to celebrate volunteers, partners, and beneficiaries.
